Google Face Complaints from Rivals
March 1st, 2010 by Geoff
Google unveiled their new publisher-side ad platform which combines its ad and search technologies with DoubleClicks. A day later Google gets an icy reception from the European Commission as several of Google’s competitors has complained about the competition.
Google aimed to simplify the complex process publishers’ face in reviewing ad performance, maximising their return on investment and managing ad network relationships when the combined Double click & Google ad manager was being designed.
The new open API lets publishers tie in 3rd party applications like forecasting and work flow tools with its new optimization features.
The complaints received have stemmed from 3 online competitors in an attempt to stop Google rolling out their new system. They have said that practices like the search rankings could demote their sites as they are competitors. Google’s top rival is said to be one of the three to file complaint; Ciao owned by Microsoft, along with ejustice.fr and Foundem.
Google believe that issues raised by Ciao about their terms and conditions could have been behind all of the recent complaints. They have now also been challenged to create a digital archive.
It has now come to light that Google’s search functions have be questioned by the European Commission. However Google say that AdSense and DoubleClicks will prove easier to manage by the publishers. There is no news that there has been a formal investigation.
Google are confident that all of their practices comply with the European laws and that they are giving fair competition.
