After weeks of speculation American Football fans saw, for the first time during a Super Bowl, an advertisement from Google. It is well known that the most watched event last year in the USA was the Super Bowl so it comes as no surprise that Google would take advantage of the millions of people who tuned in for the biggest game of the year in NFL last night.
The advert dubbed “Parisian love” is actually an old clip seen on You Tube 3 months ago so unlike other high street brands who splash out huge investments for explosive ads to grab the attention of the millions of viewers Google actually saved money here by using the old clip, apart from the $3 million fee for a 30 second ad during the third quarter break!
The buzz around this ad first began when the CEO Eric Schmidt mentioned in a Tweet that there would be an ad during the third quarter. The “love story” ad highlights Google’s local search offerings by basically showing viewers search results. The ad starts by typing “study abroad paris france” and follows a user through a basic search. The searches then go on to find “how to impress a French girl” and “what are truffles”. Eventually the ad ends with “how to assemble a crib”, Google is making the point here how they can actually have an effect on everyday life.
Surprisingly this is the first ad commercial by Google during a Super Bowl and it is a wonder why they have opted to miss out on the opportunity in the past.
