Results for 2011 show Android’s share of the tablet market is increasing

Recent research shows that the Google Android operating system has taken a larger market share in 2011. There are a number of manufactures who use the Android operating system for the tablet including Samsung.
Android sales accounted for 39% of the market share from October to December in 2011 these are up from 29% in 2010, Apple’s share fell to 58% from 68%.
Microsoft’s share stood at 1.5%.
Estimated figures show shipments of tablets reached 26.8 million in the final quarter of 2011, up from 10.7 million for the same period in 2010.
“The demand for tablets among consumer, business and education users still remains strong,” reports Strategy Analytics’ Peter King.
Apple is reported to have shipped 15.4 million iPads between October and December. That compares with shipments of 10.5 million tablets using the Android operating system.
For the whole of 2011, shipments of tablets hit 66.9 million, up from 18.6 million in 2010.
Android is used by a number of tablet manufacturers, including Amazon and Samsung.
Last month seen the milestone of the 10 billionth app which was downloaded from the Android Market, and analysts expect the operating system to overtake Apple in terms of app downloads in the coming months.
