O2 Release Information on Internet Costs for iPad
May 12th, 2010 by Geoff
O2 has released information on how much it will cost UK iPad owners to make use of their data-hungry new tablets, by giving details of Wi-Fi and 3G data plans.
The mobile service providers claim the new price plans, which continue from Orange’s announcement last week, are void of the lengthy contracts normally associated with the latest phones and include Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity – from BT and the Cloud – for nothing as part of each broadband package.
On a pay-as-you-go (PAYG) base, for £2 a day customers will be able to roam and email as much as they want, given that they’re happy with a cap of 500MB. If you’re more dedicated to your data relationship, you can always opt for 1GB and 3GB for £10 and £15 respectively if you sign up to a continuous 30-day ‘contract’.
The lesser end limit is sufficient to surf 5,000 web pages, the upper limits should enable users to benefit from between 10,000 and 30,000 web pages, O2 have stated.
Service users will also be able to keep an eye on just how much data they’re consuming straight from their iPad device, as well as upgrading or cancelling their contracts, according to the company. And they’ll be pinged when they get near to their limit to avoid any unwelcome surprises.
“We are truly excited to provide service for iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G,” said Sally Cowdry, O2’s marketing director, in an announcement.
“We’ve worked together with Apple to ensure customers get a good experience when using their iPad Wi-Fi + 3G on O2. Not only will it be efficient and easy to buy value for money data access from the gadget, but customers will also benefit from the overall, award-winning service, which includes excellent network and great customer service and the extra benefit of access to thousands of public Wi-Fi hotspots.”
The microSIMs needed to take advantage of data on the iPad aren’t yet available on the O2 network, but the mobile service provider has said it expects them to be available soon.
