Farmers Grow Internet Usage

56% of all farmers are online and a lot of these farmers are using the internet to buy farm inputs, according to the study by the National farm research unit, (NFRU).
The NFRU have found that 57% of farmers are now using the internet, with 47% stating that they had gone online to gather data about farm inputs. Some 40% said they had purchased farm inputs online.
The trend is seeing more farmers gather information online today, with 42% doing so 4 years ago. The number of farmers using the internet for collecting farm inputs is on the increase, with just 17% buying farm inputs online four years ago compared to the 40% today.
55% of livestock breeders frequently use the internet. The figure is highest among dairy farmers followed by beef farmers and sheep farmers.
The survey also discovered that 45% of livestock farmers had visited websites online to get information about farm inputs, with more dairy farmers adopting this as a source of knowledge (49%).
Just 42% of sheep agriculturalists operated the internet for wisdom. Two fifths of cattle farmers announced buying some farm inputs online, with no differences between the diverse types of livestock farmers.
NFRU economist Jim Williams said the survey portrayed an increasing percentage of farmers utilising the internet but very few using the technical knowledge to purchase farm inputs technology.
Researchers quizzed more than 24,000 farmers.
