Microsoft Launches New Webmaster Tool

This week Microsoft has launched an updated version of their Webmaster Tools which is supposed to be a huge improvement on the old one as it has been built from scratch.

Bing wanted to focus on three key areas:

Crawling – lets you view details on exclusions, malware and redirects

Indexing – check your site’s directories have been included in Bing’s search directory and

Traffic

This tool is supposed to provide customers with more transparent information on how Bing crawls and indexes websites and to show 6 months worth of data with the use of Silverlight. Although this data can only be seen on screen and cannot be downloaded. You will also need Silverlight installed.

Unfortunately one of the features missing from the new Bing Webmasters Tool is the Backlinks Report which a lot of users found useful. Others that are no longer available are Domain Score, Language and Region Information, and Robots.txt validator.
