Yahoo’s Results Now Come From Bing
August 26th, 2010 by Geoff
Yahoo announced last week that they had begun changing their back end technology in Canada and US for Yahoo Search over to the Microsoft Platform and they released a statement today on both Bings and Yahoo’s search, that all free, organic search listings are responsible now by Bing.
Senior VP, Shashi Seth stated in his announcement that……
“Yahoo! Web, Image, and Video search experiences on both desktop and mobile devices are now powered by the Microsoft platform in the US and Canada (English), with more markets to come.”
He also mentions what we should expect happening in the future from this partnership….
“We continue to work hard on the migration to adCenter, and are optimistic about completing this phase later this fall. As we have said all along, our primary goal is to provide advertisers with a quality transition experience in 2010, while being mindful of the holiday season.”
Earlier on this year Nielsen stated that Bing controlled just 10% of the search market with Yahoo slightly ahead with 14%. Now that these 2 search engines have joined forces they now hold just under quarter of the market share within search engines.
Of course Google still boasts more than double the amount, (close to 70%) however this Bing – Yahoo merger is major competition for Google.
To demonstrate, If you perform a search on yahoo a message displaying ‘Powered by Bing’ will show at the very bottom of the page.
