Social Media > Facebook Has Been Announced As The Biggest Publisher of Display Ads on the Net

ClickZ have reported that Facebook has risen to the number one position online in terms of the publication of display ads., according to data sourced by market researchers ComScore.
Facebook displayed 176.3 billion ads on its website across the first quarter of this year, which translates to a 16.2% share of the market as a whole. This is another milestone for the social networking site who also achieved the largest number of online searches, ahead of the major search engines, earlier this year. This rise has been attributed to increased demand from both large and small advertisers in the first 3 months of this year.
Yahoo finished second, displaying 131.6 billion banner ads to its users, with Microsoft third at 60.2 billion ads displayed. However it is worth pointing out that the data from which these results are determined does not include ads published on either Yahoo or Microsoft’s content network, where advertisements are placed within third party websites. Although this is the case these figures can be said to be further evidence of the attraction and subsequent expansion of Facebook’s advertising platform.
According to Linda Abraham, Chief Marketing Officer at ComScore, ‘Facebook users spend more time on the social platform than on its competitors’ websites, and subsequently loaded more pages’.
