The Social Media War Heats Up, Google Buzz Launches
February 12th, 2010 by Geoff
‘Go beyond status messages’ is the quote of the day from Google as they look to attack the ever growing Twitter and Facebook Social Media giants.
Google’s social media tool efficiently allows its users to share all types of relevant information, including photos, videos and links to other websites within the already well recognised Gmail service.
Google’s clever idea is to integrate this add – on slash new tool with its all ready large database of Gmail users, which now stands at 176 million. However Google’s major problem may fall down to the fact that it could be seen as a mimic service, where it tries to innovate is its integration with users Gmail account , however it may fall down as the reason for the Facebook and Twitter success was to move away from emails and enter into direct chat rooms or instant messaging, this is why potentially it could be seen for the time being as an add on for Gmail users. On the other hand it will always be there if Google suddenly decide to create something revolutionarily in the Social Media field.
Social Media is obviously something Google want to break into, their previous attempts with Orkut, Dodgeball, Jaiku, and OpenSocial have failed to gain entry into a decent percentage of the overall market.
From their previous attempts you would say that Google again will have no success and Google Buzz won’t actually generate much Buzz at all, as Google have tried to stay clear of a copycat product but have landed up with pretty much exactly that.
