Yahoo Score Goal With Becks Signing

Yahoo has snapped up David Beckham in a ploy to drive more users to the company’s products and services. The first ad is to be shown in the UK next week, although the ad won’t be on television it will include posters along with advertisements in certain newspapers across London. David will be Yahoo’s brand ambassador and will be sharing his thoughts and views on all things football related. Despite missing out in a place in Capello’s 23 man squad due to injury, becks will not be allowed to comment during the world cup because he is still involved with the England camp.
The LA galaxy star will have his own page on yahoo where he will comment directly with Yahoo users via chat sessions. David’s experience in three consecutive world cup tournaments combined with his club experience across the globe gives him a unique viewpoint on football and the World Cup. The deal is to run until the end of September, which coincides with the start of the football season across Europe.
It is unclear how much the deal is worth but it is another level to yahoo’s involvement in Sport. In April 2010 Yahoo brought the rights to show highlights of the Premier League in the UK until 2013. Yahoo has also followed a similar route in the US with the NBA, National Hockey League and the Major League Baseball.
The deal is being seen as a win-win scenario, yahoo is raising its awareness of its credibility of its content, and David it provides him with even more exposure to the digital community.
