A websites is for life and not just of Christmas

Unfortunately today many companies believe that ‘if they build it people will come’. This frankly, is laughable and
that statement should be kept for B-rate movies, sorry Kevin!
A website is just the beginning of a journey into internet marketing, and although your site might look slick to the
eye, it’s all worthless if know one but your self will see it.
Marketing is the core of any business on the internet or not, marketing has a direct link to sales and therefore
revenue. The problem with internet marketing is that it uses a revision of old marketing method combined with newly
developed techniques specific to the internet.
These techniques such as SEO, PPC, and Email marketing to name but a few are extensive subjects and require in-depth
knowledge of the industry. Unfortunate many people who practice web design/development are only concerned with the
functionality and the look of the site. They believe, as do their client that this will ultimately lead to a
successful website, it won’t.
For a website to be successful, it’s like any start up business must focus on a marketing campaign. Primarily this
campaign should focus around the three main search engines Google, Yahoo & MSN as it is estimated that 83% of web
traffic is generated though the giants.
Things like onpage SEO should be considered and implemented in the design and development stage of the website, all
too often these are implemented as an after thought causing the client to pay twice and then more for the site to be
adjusted. Once the site is live off page SEO should take place. This is mostly based around link equity which in a
nutshell is, references i.e. linking from other sites were the value of the link is based around the value of the
client providing the link.
Their is more to off page optimization, 96 different methods to be exact. These methods are long term campaigns and
focus on the natural listings within the search engine results pages.
For instant marketing results pay per click can be used as sponsored links placed at the top and right hand sides of
SERP’s as a cost per click model. The other main two market techniques use are Email marketing and affiliate
marketing.
One more marketing technique to mention is copyrighting, which is the art of writing persuasive text on your website
combined with SEO techniques. That’s it for my Xmas day blog, Merry Christmas one and all.
