By helping others you help yourself

As the internet grows and expands it keeps on changing. This is inevitable as new technology brings innovation. Search engines change as they learn and in the last decade the factors that goes into your page ranking has changed radically. Just as everybody starts getting used to one thing, up pops something new and SEO has to change direction to keep up.
The formula for page ranking has changed to where it is no longer about how many back links you have. Numbers mean very little and relevance and value carried a great deal of weight. If you have a garden landscaping business and website you have to link to relevant sites. Links to car enthusiast websites and blogs are meaningless and of no value for page ranking.
Get innovative
The traditional ways no longer work, so ways have to be found that is acceptable to the search engines and allows you to optimise your web presence to the fullest. So start thinking the broader picture and identify every other type of website, blog and forum that ties in with your own niche. Your garden landscaping business can tie in with gardening blogs and anything to do with plants such as natural remedies. Parenting blogs about health and safety advice for children concerning plants and gardens. Once you start thinking you will find many subjects and websites that tie in with your topic.
Add value to others
When you leave comments on relevant blogs you help their own SEO efforts as you add interest and value to their blogs and their blog following grows. Leaving valuable blog comments means you can create a link and this helps you. You do not only have to go after websites and blogs that rank high; relevance is what you need to look for. Each link boosts your own website while it adds value to that blog. That blog’s readers see that you are contributing important information and that makes them want to see what your website offers.
Become a niche expert
You know your business and you know your topic. You have great opportunities to add what is referred to as ‘Google Juice’. There are many sites on the internet that works on the principle of ‘Yahoo Answers’. Find questions being asked by people concerning your niche. Answer the questions in a knowledgeable manner that will help the person needing answers. With the answer you include a link to your website and/or blog. You have helped another person and at the same time boosted your search engine optimisation efforts.
Remember that blog owners and search engines are not stupid. Leaving useless comments just to plant a link will get you nowhere. You will not get a free ride, but if you add value you will be welcomed.
The search engines will classify the good links as relevant and this adds to the ranking formula. There are many opportunities for ethical SEO through deserving link building. It is up to you to find and utilise them through the motto of one hand helping the other. If you give value, you will in turn receive value.
