Search Engine Optimisation and Link Quality – Part Three

April 21st, 2008 by

This is the final part of my series detailing link building for your site and what to look out for. So far we have covered in part one: frame based site’s, Free For All site, relevant and anchor text. In part two we covered page rank, page authority & bad neighborhoods. Today we are going to complete the list. Start with no-follow links: no-follow links are generally tagged in the source code as per this example “<a href=”http://www.google.com” rel=”nofollow”>link</a>”. The rel=”nofollow” tells the spiders not to analyze the link in question this stop pagerank from being passed therefore making the link in terms of SEO useless, although there is an argument that it still passes the authority but with out target testing I can neither confirm or deny this factor. The best way to find out if a site provide link which are not no-follows is either to look for the above code in the source or to download a no-follow link checker of the internet. There are numerous of these about all doing the same job and it is really down to personal preference. I think I have cover all the major aspect of linking with in these three articles, if you have any more to add please feel free to email me. I you’re a small business with a limited budget I recommend reading “How to create one way link an SEO guide
There is just room it this article to mention the company in America that loss a court battle for guarantying top 25 position to their client. On a personal note I hope this is a signal to everyone in the industry who make false claims and guarantees ranking position to stop. As any good white hat SEO will tell you these position only come from hard work and continued knowledge of the industry and it is imposable to guarantee those position with out using method that will eventual get you site banned.
