Organic search engine optimization is the act of optimizing a website so that it ranks higher in the search engine result pages. Visitors that arrive on a web page from organic search results are typically more targeted and therefore more inclined to make a purchase, enquire about services, or perform any other desired action on that page. It can also be considered less expensive than paid traffic, although it will take time to effectively build a strong core of organic search traffic.

What Is Organic Search Engine Traffic?

Organic SEO aims to position a website at, or near, the top of natural search listings on the major search engines. When a surfer searches for a term relevant to that page, it will appear in a prominent position increasing the chances of gaining visitors to a website. Websites do not pay to appear in the organic listings and are ranked according to their relevance to the search term, popularity, and perceived value to the visitor. By using the most appropriate and popular keywords, it is possible to drive a large volume of traffic to a site for a minimal cost.

The only real drawback of SEO and organic search is that it takes time to build. So long as paid search marketing remains profitable, it can remain in the marketing mix of a website and offer benefit to the website owner.
