SEO is Dead, Long Live SEO!

The landscape of Search Engine Optimisation is always shifting – it always has done and always will do as Search Engines strive to provide the most relevent results to their users. SEO, now more than ever has to be as natural as possible. If a site has been obviously over-optimised then it may struggle to rank well in the SERPS. So what do I mean by natural?
SEO The Natural Way
A search engine spider will immediately pick up on various key indicators of an optimised site:
High Keyword Densities
There was a time when keyword density was a magical number in SEO. This simply does not have the impact it once did, and indeed is now more likley to have a negative impact rather than a positive one. Content such as:
Designer Clothing, Designer Jeans, Designer Jumpers, Designer Handbags & Designer Shoes are all high impact features of Designer Fashion. We at XYZ Fashion Lts are the number one suppliers of Designer Clothing, Designer Jeans, Designer Jumpers, Designer Handbags & Designer Shoes.
will simply no longer have a positive impact on your rankings. The way to go now is to mention what you do and what you sell. Your keywords should natually fit into your copy – if they do not then the keywords you have chosen may not be suitable for your site.
Identical Internal Linking
You have a page for Designer Handbags, so all of your anchor text should be just from the words Designer Handbag, yes? No. Anchor text should be varied accross all mentions on your site. Having identical anchors will result in a forced, spammy look to your optimisation. Mention brands, colours, modifiers (cheap, low cost etc.) in your anchors along with your keywords and your site will perform much better across a broader range of keywords, as well as your generics.
In Conclusion
The new optimisation is all about natural optimisation. This applies to both on-page and off-page. Steer clear of any ‘get rankings quick’ schemes, link exchanges and the like and your site will start to naturally come to the top. And guess what? Because you have done it properly the rankings will stay there!
