Google Launches Redesign Of The Google+1 Buttons, Matching the Google+ Design

Posted by Peter on 08 March 2012

Today, the eagle eyes amongst you may have noticed that Google have launched a redesign of the Google +1 buttons. We've put together this small graphic showing the buttons before and after:

Google +1 buttons - before and after

As you can see, Google have changed the buttons to be much simpler and the buttons now match the Google+ design. It's quite a small change but it really does make a huge difference. It'd be interesting to see if this new button has any impact on the CTR over the upcoming months.

Google have posted an official blog post on their Google+ developers blog detailing this change:

There have been quite a few Google employees announcing the change on Google+ (it's becoming increasingly important that you follow Google employees on Google+ if you're want to be the first in the know for Google related changes (and to see the direction in which Google is going)).

Here's a few of the posts on Google+ from Google employees:

Be sure to leave your feedback for the changes within the above posts.

If you're looking to follow Google employees on Google+, I'd suggest that you review this post that Craig Kanalley posted:

It is quite an old list though; there are now various new Google employees now on Google+. If anyone has an updated list, we'd love to see it! If not, we'll be creating an updated list soon so stay tuned!

I also noticed that you can now choose to add faces next to the Google+ button. I've not seen this before however it's something that hasn't been detailed within the announcements for the new design changes. Has anyone seen the faces option before? It'd be interesting to see how that impacts CTR too.

What are your thoughts on the new Google+1 button changes? Are you a fan?
