As 2012 winds down the usual prediction guessing game for 2013 begins. For the SEO industry, that means trying to second guess what nasty wonderfully genius algorithm updates Google has in store for us in 2013. Most of the talk we’re seeing in the last month or two seems to centre on an algorithm Google is prepping to launch, AuthorRank.
Whe...

Google has today confirmed that there has been a panda update which is said to affect less than 5% of queries. 5% is pretty large for a Panda update however, this update is said to only affect Japanese & Korean languages.
We're launching Panda for Japanese & Korean. <5% of queries affected (no other languages affected today). Con...

Just an hour before being mentioned in a blog post by Mediaworks; my colleagues and I (while searching for some blog posts) noticed the new tabular Mega Sitelinks in the SERPS for some big brand terms (SEO Book, SEOMoz).
Google reportedly pushes hundreds of similar style experiments a year to small sample audiences in their endeavour to "or...

Its another beautiful day outside and the same old story in the office. You have worked through your check list and your website rankings remain flat lined, dead as the dodo you mumble to yourself staring at the computer screen as beads of sweat appear on your forehead and trickle slowly down your face. The conversation that you are having with y...

Every month, Google releases its latest instalment of their monthly series on "search quality highlights". In March, Google has released 50 (I count 51) new quality improvements.
As usual, Google detailed the changes within their inside search blog: http://insidesearch.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/search-quality-highlights-50-changes.html

A question lately for website owners has been whether to add Google's new +1 button to their pages. Will it positively influence search results or is it just Google's latest foray into Social Media after Buzz nose-dived?
With 2011 being the year of social media for businesses in my opinion it should influence what results are shown, for example h...

Since the rollout of Google's panda algorithm we've noticed something of a flurry in the world of search engine optimization. Many are worrying that their content isn't up to scratch, with the world's most powerful search engine altering the rankings of those sites that it doesn't deem to offer a quality service to visitors.
It's an SEO lesson we...

Google really want to be clear about their mission statement. They didn't become the world's largest search engine by luck alone, they did it by listening to their users and implementing changes for the better when required, to improve the quality of their search results time and time again.
For a while most tweaks to their search algorithm have...

Though Google continues to insist that there's no rivalry between itself and Facebook, there's no doubt that they're engaged in serious competition with each other to land the largest fish in the advertising pond.
There has been a lot of speculation over the way Google has handled itself with the web becoming ever more social by the day, with man...

The past month has been hectic in the world of SEO, with the JC Penney case and the latest algorithmic changes in the form of the content farm update from Google has again created scenes of panic in the industry.
Firstly I believe the update was made as a direct response to the JC Penney expose, although it was in the pipeline I can see why Googl...

As we've mentioned in the past here on SEO Consult, Google have recently made a few tweaks to their algorithm in an attempt to reduce the amount of spam results returned to a user within the SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages).
The algorithm change that was nicknamed as the "Farmer Update" has prompted many webmasters to fret, worrying that their...
