Don’t Make This Common SEO Mistake

If you are just starting out with search engine optimisation, it can be extremely challenging. There is a massive amount of information to learn and many things that need to be done if SEO is going to work effectively for your company. There are also numerous mistakes which can be made when developing an SEO campaign and these errors can have a significant impact on your campaign and your business in the future.

A large number of business owners running a search engine optimisation campaign become focused on getting the attention of the search engines. This is an important part of SEO if hoping to achieve high rankings in the search results but focusing all of your SEO efforts on the search engines alone can be a costly mistake.

What often happens is site owners optimise their websites for the search engines instead of for their target audience. This is commonly most noticeable in the content present within their web pages. Their content is written for the search engines and so is stuffed full of keywords and popular search terms and makes little sense.

The content within your web pages is of great importance. It informs the web crawlers about your business and what it is offering and also because it lets visitors to your site know how your company can help them and fulfil their wants and needs. If your target audience is forgotten about in your content, you will create low quality text which is pretty much useless.

Content featuring numerous keywords and obviously developed for the search engine rankings will not help website visitors to gain a clear understanding of what your business can do and what you have available. They won’t be able to find any relevant information or what they are looking for and this is a terrible waste.

One of the main priorities of those running SEO campaigns is to drive traffic to their websites. If you do not make the most of this traffic because your content has not been optimised appropriately, all your time and effort has been wasted.

Content written for the search engines will not help you to achieve top rankings in the search results either. Using numerous keywords in your content to attract attention and to obtain high rankings is viewed as an attempt at search engine manipulation and therefore is considered a black hat SEO method. The search engines look out for websites with content of this kind and punish them with low rankings and in some cases, ban them completely from their search results.
