Search Engine Optimisation and Link Quality
April 16th, 2008 by Dan
Link building is probably the hardest part of Search Engine Optimisation, with many SEO’s providing low quality links, which often do more harm than good. So with this in mind I have created a list of factors which should be taken into account when applying for a link on a given web Page.
Firstly links can’t be on a frame based site. You would think this technology was redundant by now, but obviously not as I found out the other day. Placing a link on a frame based site is pointless, as the crawlers often can’t read them, or only read one of the frames. Normally the navigation link will never get spidered and is worthless.
Don’t put a link on a Free For All site, these are sites where you can submit your link for free, normally containing a large number of links, therefore distributing the page rank they pass to a minuscule amount. They can also be classed as bad neighbourhoods by Google for the sheer number of poor quality links they provide.
Make sure you use the relevant anchor text matching the keywords on your site. For instance if one of your page keywords is “Buy to let†make sure the link to your site comprises of the words “Buy to Letâ€. Make sure you have an equal distribution of your on-page keywords though with your set linking strategy.
There are a few pointers on Link building to get you started. I am going to continue this topic on Monday as it’s a mammoth topic with too much to say in one blog.
