Are You Using Forums Effectively Within Your SEO Campaign?
April 24th, 2010 by Nick
Businesses can run a search engine optimisation campaign for a number of different reasons. A number of businesses running an SEO campaign are doing so because they hope to develop their brands further within the online community. Doing this can have many advantages for a business including getting it noticed, building respect for it and increasing visitors to its website.
One way which many businesses work on the development of their brand is by participating in forums. Forums exist on numerous different subjects and it is extremely likely there will be forums relevant to your business industry. If using forums as part of your SEO campaign, careful research must be carried out to identify suitable forums which you can participate in. It is pointless to contribute in forums which are irrelevant to your business and are not going to help you to communicate with your target audience.
However, it is not just finding an appropriate forum which is important when using forums for SEO purposes. How you behave when contributing to sites like this is also of great importance.
Firstly, you must be professional at all times. When the majority of users post in forums, they are looking for help and advice. If they are going to respect the information you provide them with, you must communicate with them efficiently and clearly and always retain a professional tone.
Whilst it is possible to relax and provide information in an informal way because of the environment within which you are communicating, you must ensure your information is delivered appropriately. Using slang, being abrupt and being rude is certainly not acceptable.
When using forums and you see a user which could obviously benefit from the assistance of your company, it can be tempting to urge them to use your business. However, if you have not yet interacted with this user before this is not a good idea. It is likely they just want information at this point and may view you as aggressively promoting your business instead of trying to help them. If this is the impression you give, you will not use forums successfully as others will immediately dismiss you.
You must contribute useful and relevant information in your forum posts but do so to help others and to gain their attention and respect. If you are regularly seen to be offering valuable information, other users will regard you as an expert and their interest in your company may develop. Including links to your website can then be appropriate and useful for your business.
When using forums, it is important not to scare others off by advertising your business too forcefully. Remember you are participating in forums to build relationships and to develop your brand within the online community.
