Three Reasons To Choose Your Newsletter Audience Carefully

June 12th, 2010 by

When using internet marketing techniques, it is common for business owners to want to target as many internet users as possible. They are eager to let others know about their business and what they can offer and believe gaining their attention is the first step to success.

A newsletter created about your business and emailed out can be an effective way of letting others know about your company and what you do. It can be tempting when using a newsletter as part of your search engine optimisation campaign to send it to as many as possible but this is not advantageous.

You must only send your email newsletter to those that have expressed an interest in your company and have agreed to receive it. It may be they have requested to be added to your newsletter list when visiting your website or blog but what is of importance is that they have decided to accept this content. You must only send your newsletter to recipients like this and there are a few reasons why.

All internet users are aware of spam and are annoyed by it. An inbox full of promotional emails can be extremely frustrating and if you send others spam emails, they will not view your company favourably. It is likely they will view your business as using inappropriate and unethical internet marketing techniques and this is not beneficial. If you send spam to others it is even likely they won’t consider your business in the future even if it does become relevant to their needs because you used this advertising technique.

Another reason why you shouldn’t be sending your newsletter to those which haven’t requested it is because it may be a waste of time. If you send your email to numerous internet users and they don’t have an interest or need for your company, they will instantly dismiss your newsletter and this is not going to be useful.

There is also a third reason why you must only send your email newsletter to those which have agreed to receive it. Sending it to those which have displayed an interest in your business and are eager to learn more about it greatly increases the chances of your newsletter making a difference. These recipients will be more likely to find the content within your newsletter appropriate and useful and will therefore be more likely to visit your website and explore what has caught their interest further.

A newsletter can be useful as an SEO tool but only if created appropriately and sent to the right type of audience.
