Three Common Mistakes Made When Writing A Press Release

June 26th, 2010 by

Press releases can be highly beneficial for businesses trying to gain exposure and trying direct relevant traffic to their websites. A large number of businesses now use press releases as part of their search engine optimisation campaign and achieve good results from doing so.

If you are going to use press releases, it is advisable to work with SEO specialists. They can help you to identify topics which can be included in a press release, show you how to write one and can also get your press releases distributed appropriately. Using press releases for SEO is not simple but can be effective.

Those that do not work with professional SEO consultants and choose to use press releases often make mistakes which reduce the productivity of this SEO technique.

One issue that often arises is that the press releases they write are filled with numerous keywords. The result is the content makes little sense and therefore offers little value. The search engines will recognise this and those which are directed to it will also notice this quickly. It is easy to spot a press release which has been created based on keywords instead of genuine content. Press releases of this kind are not advantageous for businesses and will not be useful as part of their SEO campaign.

Another common problem with press releases is that they are too aggressive with their sales pitch. When business owners have an opportunity to communicate with their target audience, they can be so eager to share information about their company and what they can do that they bombard their readers with promotional information.

Whilst they may think this information will be useful, it will actually be viewed by most as unnecessary and pushy. Online consumers don’t like to feel pushed and manipulated and do not expect to when reading a press release. A press release is about providing others with relevant information, not about blatantly advertising your products.

The third common problem which arises when those inexperienced in SEO create press releases is that they do not check them thoroughly before they are distributed. Simple spelling mistakes and basic grammatical errors can make a huge difference to a press release and how effective it is. Mistakes of this kind will make it appear unprofessional and this is not how an online business needs to be viewed if it is going to be successful. Taking the time to proofread a press release is extremely worthwhile.

Press releases can be highly productive for online businesses running SEO campaigns if created and distributed appropriately. If you are inexperienced in SEO and the writing of press releases, it is advisable to work with SEO professionals. They are experienced in using press releases in this way and can help you to avoid some of the most common problems and mistakes which occur.

We at SEO Consult can help you to create and distribute effective press releases for your business and can support you with all aspects of your search engine optimisation campaign.
