Which Search Engine Is Offering The Better Real-time Search?
May 7th, 2010 by Nick
The search engines know the value of real-time search results and have been developing deals with some of the biggest social networking websites for this purpose. Twitter and Facebook are currently two of the most successful social media websites and so they were an obvious choice for Google and Bing. Both search engines have entered into agreements with these sites but the way they have handled the real time search results has been very different. They have both taken unique approaches to providing their users with this type of information.
Google is continuously striving to offer its searchers better quality and more relevant results and decided to include real-time search results on the same page as its regular listings. This is so searchers have quick and easy access to results of both types and therefore are more likely to find what they are looking for.
Bing decided real-time search results should be treated separately to normal search results and created a unique search page for results of this type. This means real-time search results are not displayed in the regular listings but that those looking for information of this kind know exactly where to go in order to find it. With there being such as emphasis on real-time search results in search at the moment, some viewed this as a risky move by Bing. Separating real-time search results from traditional results was a gamble but recent research has revealed this gamble may have paid off.
Research carried out has found even though real-time search results are displayed on the standard Google results page, these results often go unnoticed or are found to be irrelevant. Those looking for information were found to be slightly more inclined to click on results of this nature compared to those looking for something to purchase. However, neither online group showed a massive interest in real-time in the search results. Real-time search results are considered important in search at the moment and this research could signify Google is not giving its users this kind of information how they want it.
Whilst those using Google may notice real-time search results that may be of use to their search, they will be unlikely to use Google when specifically looking for real-time search results.
However, searchers looking for real-time search results know they can turn to Bing. With a Bing page completely dedicated to real-time search results, they can search relevant information in different formats. Bing provides a full and varied selection of real-time search results.
