Burying Your Head In The Sand Can Doom Your SEO Campaign Attempts
March 16th, 2009 by Dan
The goal of every entrepreneur is to have his or her business succeed and do so in a spectacular fashion. It is no news at all that online marketing is the most competitive arena for any business to compete in. It is intense, cut-throat and it is not easy staying on top of your game against competitors who are ethical in their marketing methods.
Add to this that many people will go flat out and use any dodgy plan to put one over on the businessman who sticks to moral marketing and use optimisation efforts that are all above board and it is easy to see why your business needs every possible advantage to stay in the running.
Playing ostrich is not an option
It makes no business sense to try to put your head in the sand and pretend that firstly you do not need excellent search engine optimisation tactics. Secondly you cannot pretend all is going well if your business is not getting enough traffic from within your targeted audience and you do not make sufficient conversions.
It is a natural reaction for many humans that when things start to go wrong; simply bury their heads in the sand and it becomes a case of see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil. This way of thinking is the perfect way for your online business visibility to sink to oblivion and to then try to regain your favourable position in the rankings will take a herculean SEO effort that would struggle to push you back up the ladder.
Think outside the box for success
We are all aware of the negative economy facing a huge part of the global marketing industry at the moment. People are frantically cutting back on every possible front to save money and not get caught too deeply in the down swing. Why then is this the perfect time to sharply pull your business and marketing head out of the sand? When all your competitors is trying to hide from the bad economic times, it is the perfect time to be different.
You can stand out like a shining beacon for all those customers out there who, in spite of the bad economy, still have needs of products and services. The smart move is to beat your competitors on all fonts with clever marketing with each and every available tool. Good examples are the blogosphere and social networking.
Optimisation efforts focussed on these two spheres can bring great benefits for your business. In the tuff times customers are far more wary of traditional advertising as they know all businesses are out to make money any possible way. Blogs and social networks are informal and the perfect way to communicate with potential customers in a way that appeal to them.
Perfect time to bring your optimisation to a peak
Instead of falling back, redouble your optimisation efforts and have your optimiser use every advantage that open up when competitors step back. Optimise maximally to show visitors where you are, who you are and what you have to offer while everyone one else hides.

Some very good points about ‘Burying Your Head’ with regards to SEO. I also think that now that SEO is becoming a more established industry, a lot more businesses’ clients are re-distributing their marketing spend away from things like Yellow Pages and more onto online marketing.
All the more reason for businesses to get a solid hold on their rankings rather than let their competitors climb above them. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to take ground back.
