Don’t Dump Your SEO Campaign When Profits Roll – In
January 24th, 2009 by Dan
There are so many articles that make SEO seem like an end goal task, it isn’t. SEO is a continual task that has no real end, there is always room to improve, aspects to tweak, new software to use, new users to attract. It would be foolishness to believe that an entire strategy aimed to achieve high rankings and provide a useful website would then stop.
This would simply result in all the work, hard work, being undone and future profits lost. Just like no business can stand to merely maintain its position, neither can a website stand to remain stagnant. The fact is that if you aren’t moving forward then you are moving backwards.
The effects of even the best SEO strategy do not show immediately, however once the benefits do begin to show it is important to not let up, as all your hard work will quickly be undone as the internet is a furiously fast business environment.
Be realistic, the chances of anyone finding your site is dependant on only a few factors, they have memorised your web address, you have conventional marketing and advertising, or you are ranked in the top ten of most search engines. The truth is most people don’t bother surfing any further then the first page of most search engine results, so unless you are on that page you are practically lost in the infinite sea of cyberspace.
A main aspect to any search engine results is that the algorithms do not stay the same for to long, they are continually changing and there are thousands of websites just like yours that are trying to get onto that first page of results. So even if your page is perfect today, by next month there will be new requirements and ten other sites better then yours.
The Internet is a very competitive place due to the massive amounts of rivals and the many ways to maximize your reach as well as the low cost of entry. Because of these factors it is vital to stay ahead, continually evolving to the environment while still maintaining the basics or user friendliness, usefulness, informative applicable links and a well designed page.
Just because you are reaping the rewards today does not mean they are guaranteed tomorrow. No business can be successful by assuming they will have turn over in the future, there are a million factors out of your control so it is imperative to do your best to maximise the factors that are actually within your control. To maintain existing clients while looking for more is an essential part of business.
Coca-Cola is probably the most well know brand in the world and yet they still spend hundreds of millions of dollars on advertising alone, not to mention other aspects of successful marketing. So if the biggest brand in the world can not stand to take their foot off the gas, neither can any website or small business.
