High Rankings Do Not Necessarily Mean An Increase In Sales Too
May 31st, 2010 by Peter
A number of business owners are eager to begin running an SEO campaign so they can improve their rankings in the search results. This is an important aim for many companies because high rankings in the search results can mean a massive amount of exposure for their business and a huge increase in traffic to their web pages too.
However, a common misconception among business owners inexperienced in SEO is that as soon as high rankings are achieved, a significant increase in sales will follow.
Whilst it may seem like common sense to assume that the more visitors you have arriving on your website the more sales you will make, it doesn’t always work like this and there are a few reasons why.
An increase in traffic definitely increases your potential for sales because you have a larger audience with which to communicate your messages and sell your products to.
However, just because traffic interested in a business like yours arrives on your site does not mean that a significant number of these visitors will actually become customers of your business. This will depend on the experience they have whilst exploring your web pages and what your business can actually offer.
In order to make sales, you must first ensure you have a relevant business. There is little point in providing products or services that others are not interested in. You must make sure your business is current, that there is a demand for it and that you are providing quality goods and a service appropriate for the company you are running.
The website you have representing your company is of vital importance. You must ensure important details and information are displayed clearly so visitors to your site can find what they are looking for quickly and easily. You must make sure guests can explore different pages within your site with ease so they can look at different things you offer and read different content pertaining to your business.
You must also ensure everything within your site works efficiently. Links must be correct, pages must load quickly and your site must be well-organised. If you haven’t taken these issues in to consideration, you can’t expect to make sales.
These are just some of the factors that can affect sales from your company website. There are many more and all of these things have to be taken into consideration if your business is going to succeed.
Whilst achieving high rankings in the search results and driving more traffic to your site is the first step in increasing sales, it is not the only step. Many other issues and factors also have to be taken into consideration.
