There are so many areas in which the normal business world mirrors that of the cyber business world, this is such a case. Often there is a misconception that in order to be a great communicator you need to be able to talk or express your view and thoughts well, this is only part of what makes a good communicator. The fact is the greatest communicators are often, first and fore mostly, great listeners. With regards to Search Engine Optimisation this is also a vital component.
In such a rapidly changing field it is essential to pay close attention to what is happening in development, with your competitors, with other experts and most importantly what is being said by your clients, the users. SEO is like any other business aspect, it is primarily there to put client’s needs together with business’s solutions. There are several key SEO essentials that will insure the basis for becoming a good SEO communicator.
You must obviously know what the search engines look for and how they look for it, this includes everything from links, keywords, tag lines, Structure of the Website, content, history etc. there are a mountain of things to look at understand change and adapt when it comes to truly mastering SEO. But we aren’t there yet. We are simply trying to cover the simple steps to this endless path of SEO communication. Realising that this is an ongoing never ending task is probably the first and most fundamental step.
First steps
First step has to be designing a website that maximises the criteria set by search engines while maintaining a clear understanding that the website needs to best suit the prospective users both visually and with regards to content. This is a fine balancing act that takes more time and effort then one might first think, so don’t rush this, because as with all things a solid foundation is essential.
Just as important as understanding and having useful applicable content so to is having useful applicable links. Links to and from credible sites are like gold, and are critical when trying to this process. Filling your site with content that has the essential keywords sprinkled in it is not enough, the content has to be written for the users not the search engines, it has to be useful, and informative and well written while still having the Keywords in it. Content also has to be regularly updated, and so do the links. There are ways to get millions of useless unrelated link connecting to your site, but this is going to aggravate and annoy users and won’t inevitably help with search engine optimisation.
Pay per click advertising is one of the easiest ways to get your site recognised and help get the right traffic to your site, so a well placed keyword sensitive ad is a great way to get the SEO ball rolling.
Get this all right and you have the foundations to be great.
