SEO – The Banners Of Virtual Visibility
January 20th, 2009 by Dan
The younger generation does not even know what a world without the Internet was like. It has simply always been there. Today a huge percentage of the world population would not even think to function without the Internet. It impacts on every aspect of our daily lives. Should you make a list of uses and benefits of the Internet, the list would be endless. It has become the mightiest communication tool that has ever existed. It is instant and traditional forms of communication seems slow by comparison.

They feel they are not ‘online traders’ thus they do not need an online presence. Or that they do not have the resources to expand into online trading. A website on the Internet can be used purely for advertising purposes. Each day more people use the Internet as a telephone directory. Your website is how they find you. If you think that search engine optimisation only applies to online businesses, you make a huge mistake.
If people cannot see you, you simply do not exist. SEO waves huge banners with each facet of optimisation and this is what you need. Social networking has become a rather large banner that attracts visitors. It really does not matter if you sell, or have a service to offer. You may have a website that offers interesting advice and natural remedies; bottom line is visibility. Without SEO to wave several banners to point people to where you are, you will disappear amongst billions of websites.
Demographic visibility
Search engines basically perform the same functions, yet each have their own way of working. This holds true for the three giants; Google, MSN and Yahoo. Some people feel that is they optimise for Google it should do the trick. It would be unwise to ignore the important SEO banner called demographics. Statistics show that buyers and men head straight for Google while females give preference to MSN. On a whole the age group up to 34 have a liking for Yahoo. It would greatly benefit your business to wave this important SEO banner to sharply define you’re your website traffic.
Geographical banners
SEO that targets the world as a whole is good. Often though, you need to vigorously wave the geographical SEO banner so that you are visible to people in a specific town, city or region. A good example is the brilliant artist who may live in a small town in the United Kingdom.
He wants people to not only buy his artwork, but also visit his studio. Or your business is located in an obscure region. You must make people aware of your existence through the geographical SEO banner. It makes a huge difference to your website traffic. You achieve your goal of attracting your target audience instead of globally that would not be of benefit to your business.

Very true that you don’t need to actually sell online (as in run an e-commerce site) in order to have an online presence. People often search for information as well as products on the internet. I know that I use the internet to search for physical shop addresses, opening hours etc from shops that don’t have an online store as well as to actually make purchases online.
Therefore it is vital to think about SEO whether you sell online or not. Your web presence is a great way of advertising and there is no better way to improve your visibility long term than through SEO.
