The Must-Have Values Of A Search Engine Optimiser

February 27th, 2009 by

Your online business is your life, this is how you generate your income and the goal normally is to expand that business over time to be an even greater success. When t comes to choosing your SEO Consultant who will be your optimiser, it is very important to make the right choice.

Optimisation costs money and will form an integral part of your business budget, therefore it is logical that you must be able to trust and work well with this person.

Non-negotiable core values

Of the core values of an optimiser the foundation is honesty and integrity. All his dealings with you as his client must be transparent, without market hype and totally honest. It does not matter whether he brings you good or bad news, honesty is non-negotiable.

Certification; this is the proof that he has taken the time to fully educate himself and have gone through the ranks with in-depth training. Industry knowledge; does he have the needed industry knowledge that pertains to your specific business, as this is a crucial element for the success of your optimisation campaign. Generic knowledge of several businesses is not good enough.

Mediocre is out, creative is in

Does he have credentials that are easily accessible and does he have a portfolio of work done for clients in your specific industry. An optimiser cannot give you his best if he has not taken the take to immerse him in your specific industry.

Proof of his skills and results is necessary for you cannot risk your business with blind trust. A highly prized value your chosen optimiser must bring to your business is the ability to use both the science and art of Search Engine Optimisation successfully.

Can he demonstrate that he can not only use the science, which is the factual implementation of SEO Techniques, but can he bring art, which is creativity, to the table. He must be able to give you proof that he can think outside the box and bring unique creativity to his work.

In it for the long term

Besides the core values of knowledge, education, honesty and integrity there is one value that must be the deciding factor when you make your choice. Is he the right optimiser for you and are you the right client for him? Does he have what it takes to stay with your project long term or is he going to jump ship on a whim?

The relationship between you and your optimiser should be long-term. It is not practical to jump from one optimiser to another every few months and it is definitely not cost effective. You need to feel confident that this person does not just grab clients for the money and to have a long list of clients; it must be his goal to work with you closely over a long period of time, in reality form a close partnership with you. It is only through the combination of these core values that your chosen optimiser brings his best to your campaign.
