The Psychology Of SEO Software Consumers

February 23rd, 2009 by

Humans are the most competitive creatures on the planet. It is a driving force within most people, they want to be the best, have the best and be the most successful. Countless wars have been fought over this and the latest war zone is the Internet. We have ranking wars and search engine wars and everybody joins in. the Internet has levelled the playing fields and everybody has his or her say.

The blogosphere packs a punch and the social networking ‘nations’ buzz non-stop. Anyone who wants to have an online presence knows about search engine optimisation.  It must be added with varying degrees of knowledge and expertise. Many business owners prefer to leave the whole optimisation part of their business in the hands of an expert consultant. Others prefer to have their fingers on the pulse of this part of their business. There is no right or wrong, it comes down to preference.

The give-me more syndrome

There are many SEO software programs available on the market. These programs all have the same basic goal, yet they will differ in many aspects. This is where the intense competitiveness of humans can stick a rather large spanner in the works. The psychology of ‘I must have the best, the most features and the most prestigious’ comes into play.

Yes, granted, the SEO software programs do not all perform at the same level or have all the possible features. Too often people get totally carried away downloading programs and purchasing programs because this one or that one offers a feature the others do not have. Then again, there is so much hype on the Internet and everybody proclaims to offer the best and most innovative SEO software programs.

Educate yourself

It is not wrong to test more than one of these programs; this is how you get acquainted with the different features. The danger lies in using simply too many different programs at once. Instead educate yourself; do in-depth research into what each program offers. Compare the features and make note of what seems logical. Browse through a few blogs and see what others have to say about the products and read some reviews. This is the way to get to grips with a few of the various programs on offer instead of getting bogged down trying to grab the most features at once.

Be selective and don’t follow the herd

Don’t get pulled in by hype and impossible promises. With research you will see that there are SEO software programs available that is industry specific. It is far too easy to be dazzled by the long list of ‘best’ features often touted by generic programs. Once you have found the industry specific software program that suits best, learn to use it to the best advantage.

Doing your homework and getting the best program for you is cost-effective in the long run. Being selective and mastering your chosen software program is the way to success instead of thundering along with the herd.
