Titles and Headings Assist Ranking

Best Title For Best Results

Coming up with the right web site titles for your pages is extremely important as they are a pointer to what is contained in the text that falls below the title. The keywords which make up your title are important in order to ensure that your topic is understood by all the search engines such as Google, Yahoo and AOL. Search Engine Optimization can easily be achieved if one pays attention to the operationalisation of titles, their functions and how search engines access them. One of the basic and primary factors for ranking is if the title is in tandem with the search results.

This is not only important for search engines because not only is it important for robots to index and understand the topic of the page either. It is also important for click-through rates in the search results. Searchers do not always click on the first item on the first page of the search results. They also pay attention to the words which are contained on the search results and they would always click on that site with the most relevant words.

Practically, if using a search engine like Google, you may skip the first two ranked sites because the wording does not meet what one is looking for. This is premised on the simple fact that what one puts in the title tags is the most influential variable to determine how your pages show up in natural (organic) search results.

Wording The Title Tags Is Vital

It is important to note that way one phrases the key phrases that start the title tag (the ones on the left) have the most power, so should be selected very carefully so that they realise the best ranking results for the entire site. An example has been given on one person who changed the words making the title of a website. The phrases used were ‘wedding favours’, wedding ‘party favours’ and ‘bridal shower favours’. There were different ranking results following the use of any one of the phrases showing the power of the title tags. It is a very simple way of showing that the title tags are an important technique for SEO.

Heading Tags

Another equally important element is the heading tag. It is important to plan a site thoroughly so that the most important information is easily accessible. When one is laying out a site’s content then one has to be sure that they are creating the content flow in such a way that the heading tags are based on prominence.

It is also very important that at the designing stage, one understands the heading tag structure because though it may appear something which can be neglected, it has a very important part to play when it comes to rankings. It is also important that one has one or two h1 tags per page and make sure that the contents in this optimises the ranking. It would not help to have useless content in the h1 tag and hope to be ranked on it.
