Google’s Advice – Quality Content

October 28th, 2008 by

Google and the other search engines rarely advise on SEO techniques because, if they had their way, then every site would naturally write organic content and not pay a second thought to the building of links unless through natural means. The reality of the situation, though, is that search engines do appreciate that sites will undertake SEO and they would rather a site use an ethical and effective SEO tactic than an unethical one. One of the few pieces of advice offered by Google is to offer high quality content.

What Constitutes High Quality Content

It may sound like an overly simplistic piece of advice but it is a good one. High quality content serves a dual purpose. Primarily it will be highly regarded by your visitors because it will naturally contain good quality information that is appealing and useful but high quality content is also more likely to help generate organic links for your website. Organic links are those that are offered freely by other websites due solely to the quality of the content you offer.

Why Does Google Advise The Use Of Good Content

The reason that Google advises the offering of good quality content is because that is what they attempt to offer their users. Google applies algorithms to every page they index in a bid to ensure that they give the best rankings to those sites that offer quality content and they use various factors to determine whether or not a site offers this quality content.

Is It Worth It?

The truth of the matter is that when you undertake an SEO campaign it is very easy to get lost in a world of rankings, keywords, and link building subsequently forgetting that human visitors are the ultimate goal and the method by which you will profit from your website. High quality content can be used to generate traffic from the search engines but it also caters to the needs of all of your visitors, regardless of how they found your web page. So, in short, it is certainly and always worth offering high quality content.

The Benefits Of Good Content

Good content should be optimised to convert visitors into customers as well as provide invaluable information. This helps ensure that you stand to profit from the traffic that you generate using SEO, PPC, email marketing, or any other type of online advertising. By offering great quality content you also stand to benefit from word of mouth marketing, or the digital equivalent of this at the very least. Good content attracts links and encourages bookmarks and referrals.

SEO Content

There is no reason to offer poor quality content just so that you can include SEO keywords. Good SEO content can be beneficial for search engine traffic generation while also offering benefit to the visitors that you hope to generate. By all means include some of your more important keywords as well as topically related keywords because this allows for a greater understanding of the topic you are writing about and helps your SEO campaign.
