SEO – Why Patience Is Always Required
March 22nd, 2010 by Nick
As an SEO programmer with over 150 optimisation projects under my belt, I thought I’d discuss what gripes me more than anything else about our industry, and that’s to do with timescales.
It’s important to understand from the start that any SEO agency or consultant does not have any direct control over where your site ends up in the SERPS, but they can influence how the site is viewed and its overall importance in comparison to your competitors on the web, by using the SEO methods they see fit, whilst staying inside of Google Guidelines.
There are some basic timescales which will always be present when any optimisation is complete. Firstly you have to allow time for Google to crawl the optimised pages, dependent on the authority of a site determines how frequently the spider will visit and index any given page, and potentially this could be anything from 1 day to 3 weeks. Once the site has been crawled the ranking position normally changes a few days later, this is where you will see the biggest change in your placement.
Following this it really is a case of the waiting game. Here at SEO Consult we generally don’t give timescales for 1st page listings in any less than 3 months. This time period is to give the search engine enough opportunity to crawl the onpage SEO changes on a number of occasions, also visiting the site to a reasonable depth. It also takes a considerable amount of time to source and build a decent backlink profile, when contacting webmasters or directories to request a backlink it will take time for them to process and add your link to their site. The page where your link is present will then need to be crawled before Google pass on any of its authority and affect rankings.
All these factors will push your search engine placement higher and higher.
If you want an immediate solution to your online presence then SEO is probably not for you, but the benefits of a successful optimisation are obvious. By allowing time for your hard work to be appreciated by Google you need reaslistic expectations, which will undoubtedly lead to future success.

Practice patience when going organic for your SEO campaign. It may take time but it will be worth the long term results you reap.
It takes time for optimization to produce targeted traffic to your website. Organic SEO requires time to take effect, just as it takes time for your web pages to start showing up in the search engine results. Patience is the name of the game.
