Start Winning with Search Engine Optimisation

The plain and simple truth about search engine optimisation (SEO) is that you won’t reap the long term benefits if you’re looking for shortcuts.

The attributes of successful Search Engine Optimisation is an ongoing process of planning, implementing, reviewing and monitoring. In the last decade SEO has become highly competitive, with thousands of online businesses vying for top page ranks in search engine results. The online market is bustling more than ever with millions of products and services available to the online consumer. It’s almost certain that your competitors are also looking for those guaranteed SEO methods to boost business. Without SEO your website is a closed shop and is lost among all the signposts pointing to your competitors.

There’s no quick and easy method to adapt to your website to increase SEO, but there’s several tips which get you onto the winning path. While Search Engine Optimisation isn’t a guaranteed method for success, it’s a vital building block to growing your online business.

SEO basic steps

o Keywords – make a list of the words and phrases that describe what your website sells or the content you want to share. Make sure your list of keywords is specific to the product or service and decipher what sets you apart from your competitors. Compile a list of about five to eight Keywords and thread them throughout the content in your webpages. You shouldn’t have more than 15 to 20 keywords per webpage or else the content is not engaging and stimulating for your online visitors.

o Content – write content that’s relevant to your website. It should include the keywords you’ve listed. Write content that’s useful and relevant to your products or services, content that’s helpful to your website visitors. Make it’s easy to read and not cluttered and text-heavy.

o Page titles – make it easier for search engines to decipher what your website’s about by constructing simple, relevant page titles.

o Easily to read URLs – rather try to use easy-to-read URLs, known as ‘static’ URLs, as opposed to ‘dynamic’ URLs. Static URLs are more reader-friendly to the online consumer.

o Incoming links – Incoming links from related websites channel relevant traffic to your website. Add your website links to online business directories and related community or industry sites. There are many business directories that allow free link referrals. This method generates organic traffic to your site, and also increases Search Engine Optimisation as it enhances your website’s ‘popularity’.

o Content updates: Refresh and update your website content at least once a month to ensure it’s still relevant to search engines.

o Ethical SEO – is referred to as a ‘black hat’ or ‘white hat’ approach to SEO. Most often ‘white hat’ relates to SEO methods that are inline with search engine guidelines and follow the SEO accepted code of conduct. ‘Black hat’ relates to SEO methods developed solely to manipulate search engines into giving your website high page rankings. Search engines’ punishment for ‘black hat’ SEO methods can be the banning of your website from their result lists. Therefore it’s vital you have a thorough understanding of ethical SEO.
