Microsoft Targeting UK Search Market

April 10th, 2010 by

Google is currently the most popular search engine in the world. It is particularly popular in the UK where around 90% of the searches carried out online are done so using the Google search engine. There is no denying that Google dominates the search market but Bing has been gaining recognition around the world and is ready to surge forward and steal some of the attention.

Microsoft has invested a great deal of time, money and effort into Bing and after joining forces with Yahoo!, believes it may now be real contender for Google. Google has been way ahead of its other competitors for many years but with two powerful companies coming together, the threat is definitely increased.

Microsoft is planning a huge advertising campaign for Bing in the UK. A large amount of money is going to be spent on expensive TV advertisements. It is a multi-million dollar advertising campaign and Microsoft is hoping it will be enough to get users noticing Bing and eager to try it out.

Microsoft currently has around 3% of the market share so there is a lot of work for them to do. Internet users in the UK are accustomed to Google and Google is always striving to offer its users more. However, Bing has been receiving positive reviews and has become an instant favourite of many searchers. With the right marketing and exposure, it is possible Bing can significantly increase its market share and put extra pressure on the mighty Google.

Microsoft is aware of the challenges and knows it is not in the strongest position in this match. However, Microsoft believes in Bing and believes it can offer an impressive service to both searchers and online advertisers too. It is this belief and faith which is urging Microsoft to try harder to increase their share of the search market in the UK. Their determination and big budget may prove a successful combination.

Google is undoubtedly of huge importance if you are running an online business. If you can achieve high rankings for your business in the Google search results you will enjoy a great amount of exposure and a significant growth in traffic. Google is important in search engine optimisation but other search engines must not be forgotten.

Bing is competing bravely in the search arena and is already making a difference. Search engines such as Bing must not be forgotten when you are running a search engine optimisation campaign. All search engines can direct relevant traffic to your website and therefore are of significance. If you are running an SEO campaign, you must not only consider Google but take Bing into consideration too.
