Four SEO Lies You May Be Told

July 7th, 2010 by

In many business industries, there are some which aim to take advantage of others. This is also the case in search engine optimisation and in some ways, this has damaged the reputation of honest and respectable SEO experts. There are some unethical SEO companies currently offering their services and trying to manipulate clients and the search engines too. Those in this position often make unrealistic promises and tell lies in order to attract clients who will then pay them a tidy sum.

If you are looking for a search engine optimisation company to help you with your SEO campaign, it is important to be aware of the most common SEO lies which are told. This information will help to prevent you from becoming a victim of an SEO scam.

One common SEO lie is that SEO is extremely difficult. SEO is indeed challenging and if inexperienced in the subject you will require professional SEO assistance. However, some business set out to bombard their clients with confusing words and terms so they become too confused to really understand what is going on. They make out SEO is so hard so they can demand a lot of money for their supposed efforts on their behalf.

Respectable SEO firms will admit SEO is challenging but will explain as much as they can to you simply and will tailor your campaign to your budget.

Another common lie told in search is that impressive SEO results can be achieved quickly. Time is a big issue for many business owners and so those working unethically in search play on this. They tell them results can be achieved in just a matter of days and weeks and this is what the owners of websites want to hear. They want to be successful as soon as possible and so are eager to believe what they are told.

Ethical SEO campaigns can take a considerable amount of time to develop and become effective but it will definitely be worth the wait.

Some SEO companies use the same SEO techniques for every client they work for and claim this is an efficient approach to SEO. This is not true. Every business is different and requires a unique SEO campaign. If your SEO campaign is not tailored to the wants and needs of your business, it is unlikely to make a difference.

The fourth common lie circulating in search is that black hat SEO can work. Unethical SEO is not beneficial in any way and must be avoided. Those that do fall into the black hat SEO trap will be penalised and will be left extremely disappointed.

There is a lot of inaccurate information about SEO available and it is important you are able to identify it.
