Return on investment
Return on investment is the essential yes or no question when it comes to business, if a venture is going to have profitable return on investment, with a low rick, then it is a good business opportunity. If a return on investment looks unlikely profitable or has a high risk value then that would be considered an ill advise business venture. The basis of online business still shares a massive foundation with normal business activities. Marketing strategies and sales models may be different and business operations may seem completely foreign to one another but the basics remain the same. So before starting out on a SEO strategy it is essential to first undergo a return on investment evaluation as well as a risk evaluation.
Good is not cheap
Things that must be understood when evaluating a SEO strategy is that a good strategy is no cheap, and it’s not a short term action, but rather an ongoing sector of a business, just like marketing, sales and accounting departments. There are several ways of undergoing a SEO strategy, two obvious ones are; in house operations or outsourcing the tasks to professionals. In house may seem cheaper at first, but may not provide the same results or expertise of an outsourced firm, and therefore may not provide the essential revenue that this venture may be capable of creating. This is where knowing the possible return on investment is essential.
The road is long and unyielding
The essential aspect that often gets overlooked is that SEO is ongoing, so it is very necessary to understand then when ‘upgrading’ this area of the business that it is not a once off fee, but that it is a running cost that needs to be absorbed into the business. There are benefits and draw backs to outsourcing SEO especially over an extended period. If there is someone within the business who can do it, or employing a new staff member full time to maintain the business website, this is often less effective immediately but very feasible in the long term.
If the business is very involved with the internet then in house has obvious benefits, however if the business is selling rakes, or a gardening service then outsourcing makes more sense. Another major aspect is the level of competition in the industry. If the business is trying to make its SEO mark on a highly competitive industry then employing the best SEO firm is probably your only hope of making a dent. But if one is selling a new product, with all the necessary key words available, then the challenge is less problematic and expertise is less essential.
SEO maintenance is a full time job, often requiring several different skills, and having one person in house with all the abilities required is a hard thing to find, often outsourcing is less hassle with more reward, even if it is ultimately more costly then employing an individual full time.
