The Interesting History of Search Engine Optimization

December 21st, 2008 by

A parable is the best way to describe how it all came about to where SEO is on the lips of millions each day. In a time long, long ago, the exact date has been lost in the mists of time [1990’s], three beings named Archie, Gopher and Veronica came together in a fantastic world far away called Internet. Soon a small new being was born and they named him World Wide Web Wanderer. He was weak and had a lot to learn; he walked through search directory listings and key word searches.

He grew stronger and started gobbling up super-growth foods called search engines with names like Web Crawler, Lycos and Magellan and the boy grew into a strong man who was running faster and faster. Netscape was the energy booster for a growth-spurt and this being from the world of Internet evolved into an unstoppable juggernaut when he grabbed hold of Google.

He broke all speed records, he smashes cultural barriers in his path while millions across our world love him and cheer him on each day to greater speeds and achievements. At the rate this extraordinary being is going; he will keep on evolving and he will never stop.

Spider web across the globe

It is a fact that the Internet is used by millions of people every day in their search for information on every conceivable subject and for untold products. People shop and work on the Internet; we can scarcely conceive of a world without it anymore.

The mighty search engines work tirelessly to bring whatever you need to your screen and with the strategic use of Search Engine Optimization any website owner can make sure that their websites feature high in the rankings whenever searches are done.

Commonly when you search the Internet you find what you want within the top few listings and at present Google is listed as the best search engine according to statistics. Therefore when the top search engines combine with innovative SEO strategies, website owners know that their websites will get looked at and that is what the game is all about.

Why use it at all

The world of business is extraordinary competitive and to make money you have to be top-dog and e-commerce is truly cutthroat. The 2008 statistics show that more than 80% of all online transactions starts with a key word search. Any entrepreneur who wants to make money cannot look past this truth, so it’s in your best interest to make use of the best available SEO techniques that you can possibly utilise.

The developing of top grade SEO programs is big business in itself today and competition is stiff to provide their clients with the best efforts to place the client at the top of the rankings. Remember this; search engines do not place listings in order of relevance, they place the listings according to what websites carry the heaviest traffic and SEO can give you that needed traffic.
