Be In Control of Your SEO Venture With Web Analytics

November 6th, 2009 by

Web analytics is a crucial part of an SEO campaign. In simple terms, web analytics is a tool used to measure, collect and analyse data. These tools also report this data so that you can make integral decision about the way in which your site is optimised.

There are two types of web analytics and these include off-site as well as on-site web analytics. When one speaks about off-site analytics, you refer to measurement and analysis regardless of whether you in fact own a site or not. Here, you are measuring and analysing potential opportunity that is already happening on the internet.

On-site web analytics on the other hand is when you do have your own website. This means that now, you analyse the journey of visitors who use your site. The data that you will be able to retrieve from these web analytics include which landing pages visitors are transformed into customers, in other words, where on your site people make purchases. Also, you will be able to see, how many people are visiting your site and the drop off rate.

The information received through web analytics is very important in deciding how to improve your website. Without the data generated from web analytics, you are very seldom able to determine whether your site is making any progress or where you need to spruce things up.

Is Google analytics a reliable tool?

As the top search engine running on the internet, Google has proven to be a brand that most people recognise and feel very comfortable using. They have a product list that enables anyone to understand and utilise the internet more comfortably. Amongst these products is Google Analytics.
Google analytics is a web analytics solution that offers you phenomenal insight of the traffic and activities occurring on your website. This very reliable tool is free, very easy to use and allows you to transform your website. With it, you can fix the problems that seem to have your website struggling.

How to use Google Analytics

You first have created a free account for Google Analytics. Then you have to enter the name of the site you wish to track. You will have to install a code on the site so that Google Analytics can start pulling data.

The Google Analytics will then generate metrics, in other words, measurement. The metrics show you information about the activities on your site. With these metrics, you can decide how to transform your site so that it’s more effective.

These metrics are available whenever you need to access them however it is advisable to wait a while to get a more accurate reading. To rely on the data of your web analytics tool only a few days after installing won’t give you accurate data but it can give you something to think about.
Google Analytics is a tool that can help any website owner who wishes to be control of their website.
