May 4th, 2010 by Simon
You’ve drafted your blog and decided to make it live. However there are some key checks you should do before you let it out into the internet and allow Google to crawl it. Blogs have been proven to be effective for providing regular fresh content to your website that drives more hits and visits.
However the SEO benefits of blogging becomes null and void without the correct practices. To ensure when Google crawls your blogs you get the benefits you deserve then the following spot checks are essential.
1. Keywords.
If your blogs are aimed at providing content to boost your SEO for certain keywords. You must ensure that whilst staying relevant your keyword percentage is about 0.5% for those you are trying to target.
2. Title.
The title is key. It gives your readers a viewpoint of what the blog is about and also gives authority to these words as they are h1/h2’s. So make sure it has those relevant keywords your blog post is targeting are in the title.
3. Category.
The category is mainly for usability but does have an SEO affect if your blog has proper URL restructuring.
4. Permalink URL structure.
By default, Word Press gives you this dynamic URL for your post:
This has no relevance to the user and to the search engine bots.
The best SEO permalink structure is to have your post appears with ‘category’ and the ‘post title’ in the URL.
This looks something like this: http://yourwebsite.com/category/post-title.
5. Keyword Linking.
Try to include a hyperlink with relevant keywords and links to relevant pages about every 120 – 200 words.
Using these checks and your own tricks will help ensure that the search engine spiders categorise and prioritize your chosen keywords whilst keeping the blog structure and accessibility user friendly.
