What Is The Perfect Length For A Blog Post?
March 30th, 2010 by Nick
Blogging can be a highly productive part of a search engine optimization campaign if carried out effectively. A common issue for business owners which are new to blogging is how long their blog posts should be. Site owners want to know how much they have to write in order for their post to be effective but the length of the post is not actually the matter of great importance.
The length of a blog post depends on how much you need to write in order to explore your thoughts and to give relevant information to others. Your readers must be able to understand what you have written.
Each blog post you write will be done so with a purpose. You will have something you want to share with your readers or something you want to ask them about. Communicating with your blog readers is what you must do and the required length for your blog post will depend on what you are trying to say.
Some topics you will be able to cover in a short amount of space and the blog post will be relatively short, containing one hundred to two hundred words. Other times, you will need to create a longer blog post in order to communicate with your audience. A blog post of around five hundred words is considered to be a blog of medium length. Detailed blog posts featuring a great deal of information will be longer and may even be around one thousand words. The perfect length for your blog post depends on the purpose of the post and the information provided in it.
Blogs of all lengths are acceptable and can be beneficial for your search engine optimization campaign. If you can express your message clearly in just a few paragraphs, then your blog post can be considered successful. If it takes you one thousand words for you to explore a topic with your target audience, this is also acceptable and the post can still be viewed as effective.
It is normal and natural to have blog posts of varying lengths. Your readers will find your blog more interesting if it features posts with different amounts of information. You must remember when writing your blog that you are doing so for your readers. The content is what is of most importance and the number of words is not significant when evaluating the quality of your post.

The perfect lenght would simple be as to the point as possible that tells “the full story” in as few words as possible.
On the other hand you would want 250 words plus for indexing purposes. The layout of the post is probably the key factor in my opinion, breaking the longer post in to “bite size” pieces improves the readability.
From my experience 400-600 words is ideal for SEO purposes. However length isn’t always the key to getting found by search engines. You should also stand by the 200 word rule, and check that your Title and first 200 words have as many keywords as possible while still making sense. Another fact to keep in mind is that Google and search engines also take into account how close together keywords are, it actually helps with relevance and ranking your blog.
I completely agree when you said clients need an SEO specialist to help guide them, because it is a lot of work and techniques to really be effective.
