Don’t Underestimate The Value Of High Quality Content
June 14th, 2010 by Peter
A large number of SEO experts are constantly stating the importance of high quality content in websites. They tell others the content within their sites must be relevant, well written and that it must also be useful. However, despite this emphasis on quality content, there are still many business owners which simply do not listen and do not take this information on board.
Instead, they fill the web pages of their sites with keywords and search terms they believe others will be looking for and that will help to get them noticed. They don’t spend time trying to express information simply and clearly and make little effort to create informative and useful content.
They fill their site with what they think searchers and search engines are looking for instead of what the SEO experts are telling them they want and need. This is an old approach to search engine optimisation. It didn’t work for businesses in the past and it doesn’t work for businesses now either.
The reason for this is because the result is low quality content. The content provided within the web pages of the site does not inform visitors to the site of relevant and important details so isn’t helpful. They don’t read it and get a better and clearer understanding of what they are being offered and how it can benefit them but instead feel duped and manipulated. With this type of content it quickly becomes clear to visitors the site is all about getting traffic and not about ensuring a quality user experience.
This type of content will also be quickly dismissed by the search engines if it is even noticed by them at all. The web crawlers sent by the search engines to explore the millions of different websites look out for content like this and will rank sites containing it poorly in their search results. It must be remembered that the search engines want to provide their users with high quality and useful websites to help ensure their needs are fulfilled. Sites with low quality content simply don’t do this.
A common issue amongst website owners is they become obsessed with directing traffic to their websites and forget the importance of communicating with this traffic when they actually arrive on the website. Directing visitors to your website is great but if you don’t then give them the information they need to take their experience further, all of your time and effort will have been wasted. Getting traffic to your website is only one part of the SEO process.

What Panda did is remind content marketers what’s really important. The focus was on quantity when it really should be on quality. It’s great that Google is beginning to really recognize that there’s a lot of low quality stuff out there that shouldn’t be ranked.
