It’s all too easy to complete on page optimisation and then ignore your site for the immediate future following sign off. There are a number of methods that are at your disposal to keep on top of the progress of your site in the natural search results.
Firstly the obvious one is in the results pages themselves, download some script so you can get numbered results in Google, this will allow you to keep a note on where your site is week by week. I would also recommend setting your preferences to 100 results per query instead of 10 – allowing easy page finding.
Secondly the free Google Analytics is perfect for tracking traffic and sales, as your site starts achieving top listings you should see a rising level of traffic. You can also see where visitors are dropping off within your buying process which is a great tool as well as date comparisons which is good for noting improvements. With Analytics you can set up the ecommerce features which details all costs from purchases on the website and where they cam from.
Thirdly there is lots of software specifically designed to do these jobs for you, when ran they will note your keywords and generate a report for you and give accurate changes within timescales. This is also handy to identify competitors results.
Google Webmaster Tools is another free software available through your Google account, this tracks your website thought the eyes of the search engine spiders. You can determine how frequently your website is being crawled by the Google Bot, once the Search Engine Optimisation has been completed you should be crawled considerably more frequently. Following this by going through the normal search results you can visit the cached page of your website, this states when and what was indexed on your page.
Finally http://www.seodigger.com is a great site that identifies every keyword that you are gaining listings for, this can throw up some unexpected results that you didn’t expect and it may be worth to focus more attention on these keywords.
Of course these aren’t the only tools available, but they are free and readily available. For a free SEO analysis of your website please use this link:SEO Analysis.
