Search Engine Submissions – The Truth

August 7th, 2008 by

Submitting web pages to search engines is a service that you can find on numerous
pages and in various guises. Some services will offer “comprehensive” services
that submit to hundreds or thousands of search engines and charge very little.
Completed using automated software, this age old routine brings very little,
if any, benefit to an SEO campaign any longer.

The SEO Technique Of Yesteryear

Search engine submissions were once the chosen way to inform search engines
that your website existed. After a period of waiting, the search engines would
deploy a spider to your site in order to crawl the pages, as long as they knew
you existed. However, search engines and especially the spiders that they use
to crawl the web have become far more advanced making search engine submissions
virtually obsolete.

Getting Indexed Through Links

There are many alternative methods of letting spiders known about your website.
The most commonly used is through the acquisition of an inbound link. Presuming
that the page providing the link has been indexed then your page will also
be indexed the next time a spider passes through the link.

Getting Indexed Through Sitemaps

The major search engines each offer their own Webmaster tools, or similarly
named services. By creating a sitemap and adding this sitemap to these services,
it is again possible to get indexed in next to no time.

Search Engine Submission

Search engine submissions are an outdated and defunct SEO technique. Companies
and websites still have the automated submission software, however, and so
they will happily sell you the service even at a reduced price. Because they
usually inform you that you’ll have to wait weeks for inclusion this allows
for spiders to naturally find their way to your site anyway. Using links and
submitting sitemaps are more accurate and more beneficial methods of getting
your pages noticed by the search engines.

My suggestion is not to force submissions to search engines, the process of rankings, moving up the list and all of the methods sof Search Engine Optimisation should all be natural, done to improve the quality traffic that is delivered to your website, if you try and force the issue in my opinion you might find the results take longer, if you keep your content fresh, over time the bots will index your site on a more regular basis. A good example of this is to include a blog on your website, keep your visitors up todate with your views and thoughts, the search engines will love this, as they are just like humans! be interested in what you are updating on your website, as long as it is relevant and meaningful to your cause.

Search engine submission doesn’t guarantee that you’ll receive good rankings. Though, it will let the search engine know where your page is and what it’s about. This is the first step to getting more search engine exposure for your website. To improve your rankings, investing time in the search engine optimization of your individual website pages might also prove to be a good idea.

  3. Hannah says:

It is not necessary to submit your website to a search engine (SE). Search engine can also find your sites through incoming link. If your site is listed in those sites which are already indexed by search engine, then there is no need to submit your site to search engines.

  4. Jaden says:

Should I use search engine submission software for my website?

  5. JadenSamuel says:

Some web masters continuously submit to search engine hoping to attract the attention of robots. Do not make this mistake. It will put your site again at the end of the line.

  6. Mark says:

Normally, search engine submission refers to get listed your website in search engine. But today, search engine submission is very easy and simple; it’s just a request to a search engine to include your site in the index.

  7. Jonathan says:

Should I pay for submitting my site to a search engine?

  8. No you should never normally need to pay to be listed in a search engine. If you have quality backlinks and have built your site correctly then you should be listed well naturally.
