The monitoring should be done on weekly or monthly basis so that success can be insured. If traffic or CTR to your sites is not increasing then you should change the keywords, including long tail keywords and short head keywords.

Definitely a true target should be there and if you want our site to be visible in the top of the SERP of search engines then for achieving this, true content that is informative and useful for the users with theme based keywords and link building are the basic tools.
