The 3 Biggest SEO Mistakes
May 14th, 2008 by Dan
There has been a lot of thought and detail gone into the blogs recently, specifically around errors which can be fixed on your website quickly and easily. However, Which of these have the biggest impact on your websites essential search engine Rankings? Today I will prioritise the 3 biggest mistakes we have found around the internet, ones which we regularly have to correct as an ethical SEO company.
1. Cloaking: The art of displaying one page to a user – and a different one to a search engine. We have seen a number of websites who have had SEO companies perform this form of unethical technique – usually resulting in a search engine ban – and them coming to us as a ethical provider to clean up the pieces!
2. Hidden Text: This is another way your going to really upset the search engines – and also gain you a ban! Usually this can be as simple as providing blue text on a blue background – to completely hiding it through Javascript without giving the option of displaying the content to the user – or through using CSS. Either way this is completely unethical as the content is never intended for the user – and you will obtain a penalty.
3. Javascript/Flash Navigation. Whilst not the worst of the 3 mistakes – it is an error which blocks the search engien spiders from viewing the website and retrieving your valuable content. However the end result is the same as the other two – no rankings and a lot of time spent on improving the listings.
I hope through giving you this information – it helps you to pick the correct SEO company to partner with, a company who practises ethical techniques, fixes all of the errors and improves your website overall. If you would like further information, please contact SEO Consult
