This is a very valid question and one that has inspired debate all across the global. The fact of the matter is that we can only base our answers on opinion and what we may have heard on the "grapevine". In my opinion there will always be time for seo in the forseable future. I base my thesis on the main reason why seo is on the market in the first place, to improve clients browsing experience, and because of this i will say it will still be important.
