LinkedIn Getting a New Member Every Second
March 26th, 2011 by John M
As social networks go, LinkedIn is different from the norm. It specialises in helping to create long-lasting business relationships with new people, strengthen existing ones and create new networks that will serve you well long into the future. Statistics released by LinkedIn this week though have shown that, every twelve days, they are getting approximately a million new people signing up to use their services – equating to one new user every second.
LinkedIn has also introduced a news feature to the site recently in an effort to attract more users and turn them into regular visitors. Stories based around a user’s profession are presented to them in a bid to keep them visiting the site more often, and to make use of its professional services on a more consistent basis. It’s tough for LinkedIn to keep people visiting the site on a daily basis. Though it can be classed as a social network, can it truly be classed as social media?

In an SEO sense it’s strikingly different from using sites such as Twitter or Facebook. LinkedIn’s value lies firmly in the ability to create new networks with like-minded people in your industry and taking it from there. LinkedIn’s real problem though is that it’s rumoured to soon become an IPO – having registered users is all well and good, but they need people to stay on the site and keep coming back for more instead of checking industry updates every other week.
So will LinkedIn evolve and become an essential social tool in an effort to secure key advertising revenue? To many it’s already an essential way of doing business, and a great way to promote a brand amongst a more intricate community. Whatever the future holds for LinkedIn, it’s an incredible way to make connections that really matter.
