Where Does SEO Fit Into The Blogging Scene?

April 15th, 2009 by

Since the inception of the Internet and online trading, things have changed radically. Online marketing has taken the world by storm as it has opened up global marketing for each and every online business. This means the goal posts keep on changing and the competition becomes stiffer.

That is why search engine optimization has had to evolve as well, to keep up with changing demands and trends. That is why Search Engine Optimisation is not a quick fix or a flash in the pan part of any business’s overall marketing campaign. It is a concentrated and ongoing part of marketing that is indispensable for the success of any online business.

So why do people blog and what makes this so popular?

There are as many reasons for blogging as people can think up concepts. The Blogosphere has become huge and people have their say, whether it is good or bad. Does this mean blogs are important for a business or are blogs simply for the average person to vent his feelings and debate issues?

No, blogs are important for a business as well and there are two main reasons why companies are Blogging. Google AdSense is the easy and very fast way for a website to display Google ads, no matter what the size of the website is.

The other main reason for blogging is to use search engine optimisation to push your search page results rankings as high as possible. Search engines are aware that blogs are updated regularly and give fresh information and interesting snippets basically on a daily basis. This means that the search engines tend to give a fair amount of preference to blogs in the search results.

Natural optimisation

Firstly, a good SEO tip is to use one of the two giants in the blogosphere; Blogger and WordPress. This gives you an immediate advantage with Google and will get you indexed faster. The way blogs function is not that much different from a website.

The search engines will sit up and notice if they see that there is regular, daily postings on the blog and this makes the spiders target your blog actively. If your blogging topic can be linked to a topic that is presently hot on the Internet, this is an immediate boost for your blog.

Active optimisation

This is done through having an interesting title for your blog, also referred to as link-baiting as this draws the reader. Keywords must be used in the title, while still being related to the topic as the blog must be relevant. The use of H1 tags is valuable as well.

Find other blogs you can relate to and link to them as this link building generates traffic. Your archives are important and readers must be able to access those postings with ease.

Successful search engine optimisation is the combination of the natural and active forms of SEO. Blogging is a fun way to generate interest in your business and can be done in short bursts every day.
