Not All Traffic Is The Right Traffic
September 12th, 2009 by Nick
When it comes to directing traffic to your website, it is a relatively easy task. However, it is well worth noting that not all traffic is the right traffic. Now, it does not matter if you have 1000 hits on your website in a day if only ten percent of that traffic is the right audience. A business website is a vital way for your business to gain attention, visibility, advertising and profits.
If you are attracting 900 hits from people who are not even remotely interested in converting to sales, you have a problem. Another downside to this vast amount of web traffic is that the search engines will know that they are not interested in your services or products. How? Well, the engines have a way of tracking how many visitors you receive and how long they stay.
The more visitors you have that only stay a few minutes; the worse off you are to the engines. That tells them that you are luring traffic to your website with false promises or that you are doing something else wrong. The only place that gets you is a lower SERP ranking.
SEO and traffic
Search engine optimization should not be seen as your enemy but rather as your friend. This is because its purpose is not to make your life more difficult but to help you. Yes, it is hard to think logically about optimization helping you in any way when it is making life more tedious. However, if you treat your optimization as the enemy, you are not going to get anywhere at all. SEO is not the enemy, the bad websites that use black hat optimization are. Now, the link between traffic and SEO is that the one proportionately attracts the other. The better your optimization, the higher your traffic volume will be.
Doing it wrong
To get optimization wrong is an easy task, there are many black hat tips and trick to instant cyber stardom that you need to ignore and steer clear of. Don’t duplicate content, steal or plagiarise content from a top website. Don’t stuff your copy so full off keywords that it becomes an incoherent, valueless and uninformative piece of drivel in favour of keywords. Don’t affiliate yourself with link farming or any other poor quality and disreputable websites. These are but a few things that will drive both the search engines as well as your human traffic away from your website.
Doing it right
Proper SEO start with thorough planning. Research your keywords correctly and thoroughly in order to make the best choices. This means that your targeted audience will be able to find your website without too much trouble. Offer your visitors valuable and informative information, give them the information that they are looking for and keep it relevant. This will attract visitors and keep them on your website for longer than just a few minutes. Attracting positive reviews from a large percentage of your traffic will spread the word about your website value. Good SEO will attract the right type of traffic to your website and in so doing increase your SERP ranking and your business profits.
